Scholarship Award Recipients
Mia, Santos, Arizona State University. Enrolled in the Actuarial Science master’s program.
Mia recently graduated with a Bachelors in Applied Mathematics for the Life and Social Sciences and will be pursuing a masters in Actuarial Science this upcoming fall. She has successfully passed two actuarial exams, and she plans to gain more industry experience and exposure before taking her third exam. Mia is currently working as an actuarial intern at GPW and associates, where she is learning about the company’s pricing and reserving practices. She was also part of the winning team of the CAS Case Study competition that took place this past spring. Mia has been promoted as the President of the GIS Kappa Chapter.

Gokul Achaththekoot. Arizona State University. Enrolled in the Actuarial program. Gokul is currently entering his sophomore year. He has successfully passed his first actuarial exam and is planning to take his second one this month. Gokul will be serving on the Presidential Committee for ASU's GIS Kappa Chapter. Outside of actuarial science, Gokul writes for the Arizona State Press and is a part of the local comedy club on campus.

Diego Orellana, Arizona State University. Diego Orellana is a rising senior studying Actuarial Science at Arizona State University. Diego has maintained a 4.0 after three years in the program while attending the honors college. He has successfully passed four actuarial exams. Diego was a selected winner for 2023 Travelers’s case competition, placed first at the 2023 ASU CAS case competition, placed second at the 2024 ASU CAS case competition, and completed a submission for the 2024 SOA case study. Diego completed a Life internship last summer, a Health consulting internship last fall, and a property and casualty internship last spring. Diego returns to the health consulting internship for the summer. Diego will serve as the diversity and inclusion officer at Gamma Iota Sigma Kappa Chapter at ASU for the second year in a row. Diego is also heavily involved with the Organization of Latino Actuaries as a named scholar, campus ambassador, and rising leader focused on pipeline development.
